We give away transplants in the spring to encourage people to fight food insecurity by growing their own food. All we ask is that if you have excess produce, you donate it to the Lunenburg Community Food Pantry. Lets reduce food waste. In 2025 we gave away 450 transplants!!! At Christmas, we motivate the community to bake to fill boxes for the Lunenburg Interchurch Foodbank to give to their clients. Filled with yummy cinnamon and raisin bread, loads of shortbread cookies, gingerbread cookies decorated by the students at Bluenose Academy and full of other surprises, the Foodbank deliver these along with the Christmas Turkeys.
We have given presentations at the Seniors College Association of Nova Scotia. We presented at the Mahone Bay Community Center in their Connecting Series. If you would like We Feed Lunenburg to speak about food insecurity, please reach out. We only want to raise awareness about this important issue.
From teaching 11 year old children how to make bread rolls, to teaching adults how to bake bread. We taught bread making at the Mahone Bay UpSkilling session in 2024. We give gardening tips from how to trim tomatoes, how to align your greenhouse to how to increase your gardening space using vertical growing on cattle panels. We have helped people plan their gardening spaces so they can grow as much in their given space as possible. If you have a question, feel free to reach out. We want everyone to be as self-sufficient as they can.
We are at the Lunenburg Farmers' Market every second Thursday - either in the lobby of the community center or in the arena. Drop by and say hi. We love to chat. Follow us on our Facebook We Feed Lunenburg group to find out when we are at the market. Once it's warm enough and until it's too cold, you can also find us every Sunday from 11:30-13:30 at Francis' Independent in Lunenburg. Hope to see you there one day!!
Collaborating with The Shore Group and Food Vibes, we have batch cooking sessions where volunteers come together and cook under the guidance of a chef. About 100 meals are prepared each time and frozen to be given out to those in need at the Lunenburg Community Food .
We have videos on how to bake simple bread in step by step instruction. Go and have a look. Make one for yourself and give one to those in need. www.youtube.com/@wefeedlunenburg8155
Take a tour around our WFL HQ garden where we grow for ourselves and give our excess to those in need. https://youtu.be/Q88CovIHgyw
